If the adjacency is up when the command is given, the peering session is dropped and all route information learned from the neighbor is purged. When a neighbor is shut down, BGP first sends a NOTIFICATION message with a Cease error code. When an adjacency is administratively shut down, the adjacency stays down until administratively reenabled (using the command no neighbor shutdown). Issue this command in Peer Template Configuration Mode to to a peer template.
