Installing a Hot Swap SCSI Drive

Page 48 highlights

Chapter 4 Installing Mass Storage Devices Installing a Hot Swap SCSI Drive CAUTION Protect the drive from static electricity by leaving it in its antistatic bag until you are ready to install it. Before handling the drive, touch any unpainted metal surface to discharge static electricity. When you remove the drive from the anti-static bag, handle it only by the frame. Do not touch the electrical components. Place the drive on the anti-static bag whenever you set it down. Hard disk drives are very susceptible to mechanical shock and can be damaged by a drop as short as one-quarter of an inch. Take care when unpacking and handling the drive. If the drop would crack an egg, it will damage the drive. 1. At the front of the HP NetServer, open the bezel. Refer to Chapter 3, "Opening and Closing the HP NetServer" for details. 2. If there is a filler panel in the hot swap mass storage location, remove the filler panel by: a. Pressing in the locking latch and insert your fingers. b. Using your fingers, pull the filler plug straight out. See Figure 4-1. 40

Hard disk drives are very susceptible to mechanical shock and
can be damaged by a drop as short as one-quarter of an inch.
Take care when unpacking and handling the drive. If the drop
would crack an egg, it will damage the drive.
