Chapter 5 Installing Additional Memory CAUTION Ensure you use SDRAM and not EDO DIMMs. The HP NetServer LXr 8000 DIMMs are not compatible with the HP NetServer LXr 8500 DIMMs. Use only SDRAM DIMMs acquired from HP. Contact HP Customer Support for a list of qualified DIMMs. HP will not support configurations using non-HP Buffered SDRAM DIMMs. 12. Locate the desired slot for installing the DIMM. Refer to Figure 5-2 and the "Memory Guidelines" earlier in this chapter for possible DIMM locations. 13. Remove the DIMM from its container, handling the module by its edges. See Figure 5-5. Metal Shield over Memory Chips Figure 5-5. DIMM Module NOTE Some of HP's DIMMs will not have the metal shield on the DIMM. 14. If necessary, lay the DIMM on an anti-static surface. 15. Spread the slot's two retaining clips outward. See Figure 5-6. 55
