1 Setting Up the HP NetServer Before You Set Up Your HP NetServer Before you set up your HP NetServer LXr 8500: • Read the Installation Road Map (Rack system specific). The Road Map shows how to set up the entire rack system. It will alert you to issues you must consider before installing the HP NetServer itself. The Roadmap comes with the rack. • Read this chapter. This chapter tells how to set up and configure the HP NetServer. It tells you what to do, and in what order. For a trouble-free installation, read this chapter before taking the HP NetServer out of its box. Setup Steps It is important to follow the setup steps in the exact order shown below. Skip any steps that do not apply to you. 1. Unpack the contents of the shipping box. CAUTION The HP NetServer LXr 8500 weighs approximately 155 pounds fully configured. At least two people are required to lift the HP NetServer. Failure to observe this warning could result in serious injury, or damage to the HP NetServer. 2. Verify the contents of the shipping box against the Contents List included with your HP NetServer. If anything is missing or damaged, call your reseller. 3. Store the empty boxes and packing material in a safe place. This is especially important if you plan to ship the HP NetServer elsewhere for final installation. 4. If you have optional items to add to the HP NetServer (memory, accessory boards, or processor modules), remove the appropriate access panels from the HP NetServer chassis. Refer to Chapter 3, "Opening and Closing the HP NetServer." 5. Install additional processors. 1
