Chapter 5 Installing Additional Memory Installing Additional Memory The HP NetServer must be powered down to install additional memory, but it does not require sliding the HP NetServer out of the rack. 1. Log off all users and if necessary, back-up files. 2. Follow instructions in Chapter 3, "Opening and Closing the HP NetServer," to shutdown your respective NOS. NOTE The power supplies continue to provide standby current to the HP NetServer until the power cable is disconnected. 3. Disconnect the power cord from the power strip. 4. Swing the front bezel open, or remove it entirely. Refer to Chapter 3, "Opening and Closing the HP NetServer" for details. 5. At the front of the HP NetServer, locate the LCD display and the memory bay cover, just below it. See Figure 5-3. On top of the LCD display's housing is a small handle used to raise or lower the LCD display. The memory bays are concealed and protected by the memory bay cover. 6. Loosen the three captive screws holding the memory bay cover in place. See Figure 5-3. 7. Pull up on the LCD handle with one finger to allow for movement of the memory bay cover. See Figure 5-3. The LCD display should move up about ½ inch and stop. See Figure 5-3. NOTE If you do not push the LCD display up and out of the way, you cannot remove the memory bay cover. 8. Remove the memory bay cover from the HP NetServer. See Figure 5-3. The memory boards are located side by side underneath the processor tray assembly. 52
