Using Paper Catalog > Operation When Fiery Controller is Installed Reducing Paper Curling When Outputting to the 5,000-sheet Stacker or Finisher Adjust this setting if curling occurs when outputting to the optional 5,000-sheet Stacker or the Finisher. There are two types of curling: upward curling and downward curling. Upward curling Downward curling The direction of curl (warpage) after printing changes depending on the difference in the moisture content (ink volume) on the front and back sides of the paper. For example, if the moisture content on the front surface of the paper is higher than the back surface, or if printing on single side of the front surface, the printout tends to curl downward. On the other hand, when printing on double-sided, if the moisture content on the back surface of the paper is higher than the front surface, the printout tends to curl upward. For example, the image is printed on the entire of back side of the paper, and a small amount of text is printed on the front side. In addition, the direction of curl may increase if the curl adjustment value is configured large in the plus or minus direction NOTE • If the moisture content (ink volume) on the front and back surfaces is similar even in double-sided printing, the direction of the curl will be canceled and it will be wave edge. • The curl is corrected and the printouts are discharged with the front side facing down when printing on both single- sided and double-sided, except for the 5,000-sheet Stacker and Finisher tray B. However, the condition of the wave edge may become the downward curling. • If you want to print in large quantities, check the image quality and print format (single side or double side) of the original to be printed, make trial prints and check the condition of curl while correcting it. 1 Display the screen. [System Menu/Counter] key > [Device Settings] > [Paper Feeding] > "Cassette Settings" [Cassette 1 (to 8) Settings] > [Paper Catalog] 2 Select the paper brand > [ ] (information icon) > [Decurl Adj. (Inverter and Decurler Unit)] 3 Configure the settings. You can adjust decurling to a value from [-5 (Low)] to [+5 (High)]. If strong upward curling occurs, adjust the value in the + direction. If strong downward curling occurs, adjust the value in the - direction. IMPORTANT If the adjustment value is too large, curling may increase in the reverse direction.
