Paper Handling > Precautions of Special Paper Precautions of Special Paper This section describes printing onto special paper and print media. Hagaki (Cardstock) Fan postcards and align the edges before loading. When feeding postcards from a main unit cassette, load with the print side down. When feeding from the main unit multipurpose tray, or the optional paper feeder or 550-sheet multipurpose tray, load with the print side up. If a postcard has even a slight amount of curl, do not load it. Use unfolded Oufuku hagaki (Return postcard) (available at post offices). If the back side has even a slight amount of burring (a thin ridge caused by cutting the paper) do not load. Envelopes Due to the structure of envelopes, printing evenly over the entire surface may not be possible in some cases. Thin envelopes in particular may be wrinkled by the machine in some cases as they pass through. Try testing a sample to ensure the print quality. Storing envelopes for a long period may cause them to become wrinkled. Thus, keep the package sealed until you are ready to use them. When printing onto envelopes, you must be liable for the print quality and possible trouble. Keep the following points in mind. • Do not use envelopes with exposed adhesive. In addition, do not use the type of envelope in which the adhesive is exposed after the top layer is peeled off. Serious damage may be caused if the paper covering the adhesive comes off in the machine. • Do not use envelopes with certain special features. For example, do not use envelopes with a grommet for winding a string to close the flap or envelopes with an open or film-covered window. • Do not use an envelope with significant curling or a wave-like shape. This may cause soiling of the inside of the machine and paper jams. • If paper jams occur, load fewer envelopes at once. IMPORTANT Select Envelope for the media type before printing. The machine falsely detects the media type and double feed or paper jam may occur. NOTE Before using envelopes in volume, try testing a sample to ensure satisfactory print quality. Index Tab Dividers To print on index tab divider that has not been registered in Paper Catalog for that paper source, select [Index Tab Dividers] for the media type. When printing onto index tab dividers, you must be liable for the print quality and possible trouble. 1 Display the screen.
