Finding and Recording Places 203 10.5 Using TomTom® NAVIGATOR TomTom NAVIGATOR is a GPS navigation software that provides clear routing directions and vocal instructions to guide you in your journey, based on the destination address you specified, a contact you selected, a point of interest, etc. TomTom NAVIGATOR gives you several routes to select from when you plan your journey in advance. Places that you frequently go to can be added as favorites. Before you start on a journey, use the map browser to familiarize yourself first with the route. You can also plan in advance the fastest or shortest route for your trip. Other features include alternative route calculation, itinerary planning, and more. To open TomTom NAVIGATOR Tap Start > Programs > TomTom NAVIGATOR. First-time use The first time you use TomTom NAVIGATOR, you have to answer a few questions to set up TomTom NAVIGATOR. Answer each question by tapping your answer on the screen. NAVIGATOR then opens the web browser so you can download a city map of your choice for free. After the download is finished, the city map is automatically added to TomTom NAVIGATOR. If you enjoy your navigation experience with the city map, you can get maps that cover whole countries or continents from the TomTom map shop: www.tomtom.com/products/maps/ Note The device comes with a storage card that includes a map. If you have already inserted this card in the device, NAVIGATOR does not prompt you to download a map. To activate and use the map included on the supplied storage card Before you can use the map on the storage card, you need to activate it. 1. Make sure you have the supplied activation code ready, and that the device is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. (For more information, see "Ways of Connecting to the Internet" in Chapter 8.)
