Introduction While HP-UX is Hewlett-Packard's version of UNIX and IRIX is SGI's version, both generally comply with the same set of standards. This certainly makes it easier to port applications from one system to the other. Most differences will be noted in the day-to-day activities on the system-the look and feel of the desktop, system administration, etc. Both HP-UX and IRIX are compliant with the following: • UNIX System V Release 4 • X/Open Portability Guide Issue 4 Base Profile (XPG 4) • X/Open UNIX 95 • POSIX 1003.1 • POSIX 1003.1b • POSIX 1003.2 • Federal Information Processing Specifications (FIPS) 151-2 2
