Component CE ESI IOP IL Network Connection Tuple MIC Table 1-2 Endurance Components Description Endurance Server Contains . . . Each CE (Compute Element) is a Pentium class system that 2 includes a motherboard, video adapter, a MIC (Marathon Interface Card), and two processors. The processors on the CE provide the compute processing for the Endurance server. The Endurance System Interconnect (ESI) is a conceptual 4 term used to describe the fiber paths that connect the IOPs to the CEs. The ESI paths in the Endurance server are: • ESI11 from IOP1 to CE1 • ESI12 from IOP1 to CE2 • ESI21 from IOP2 to CE1 • ESI22 from IOP2 to CE2 Each IOP (I/O Processor) is a Pentium-based system that 2 includes a floppy disk drive; SCSI devices; SCSI, video and Ethernet adapters; a keyboard; a mouse; serial ports; and a MIC. The processors on the IOP provide the I/O processing, data storage network connectivity, and redundant I/O resources for the Endurance server. The IL (IOP Link) provides a path for communicating system 1 states and status information. It also provides a mirror copy data path. Each network connection provides a communication path 2 between the Endurance server and a local area network. Tuple is a conceptual term used to describe half of the 2 redundant devices in the Endurance server. There are two tuples in the Endurance server. Each tuple contains: • a CE • an IOP • a network connection The MIC (Marathon Interface Card) supports a high-speed 4 interconnect path for communication between the CE and IOP components in the Endurance server. Each CE and IOP contains a MIC. 1-6 HP Netserver AA Solution Administrator's Guide
