Expansion Cards and Expansion-Card Risers Expansion Card Installation Guidelines Your system supports up to six Generation 2 PCIe expansion cards using connectors on the system board and two expansion-card risers. To locate the expansion-card connectors on the system board, see Figure 6-1 and to locate the expansion-card connectors on the expansion-card risers, see Figure 6-4 and Figure 6-5. The following are the slot configurations on the risers and the system board: • Riser 1 - Slot 1: x8 link expansion slot (24.13 cm [9.5"] length) - Slot 2: x4 link expansion slot (low-profile 24.13 cm [9.5"] maximum length, with a standard height bracket) • System Board - Slot 3: x8 link expansion slot (low-profile 24.13 cm [9.5"] length) - Slot 4: x8 link expansion slot (low-profile 24.13 cm [9.5"] length) • Riser 2 - Slot 5: x8 link expansion slot (24.13 cm [9.5"] length) - Slot 6: x8 link expansion slot (24.13 cm [9.5"] length) NOTE: The length specified above is of the expansion cards. NOTE: Ensure that both riser 1 and riser 2 are installed in the system before you turn the system on. CAUTION: To ensure proper cooling, only two out of the six expansion cards can have a power consumption greater than 15 W (up to 25 W maximum), not including the integrated storage controller. Table 3-4 provides a guide for installing expansion cards to ensure proper cooling and mechanical fit. The expansion cards with the highest priority should be installed first using the slot priority indicated. All other expansion cards should be installed in card priority and slot priority order.
