218 Keeping Your Files Safe Hard disk drive passwords - Windows NT 4 To delete the hard disk drive master password, type 2 and press Enter. To quit without deleting the password, type 3 and press Enter. HINT: If a hard disk drive user password is set, HDDPWD32 displays a warning and does not delete your hard disk drive master password. If there is no hard disk drive user password set, HDDPWD32 displays a warning and asks you whether you want to delete the hard disk drive master password. 5 To delete the hard disk drive master password, type Y. To exit without deleting the password, type N. If you choose Y, HDDPWD32 prompts you to enter your password. 6 Type your password and press Enter. If the password you typed matches the registered hard disk drive master password, the password is deleted. 7 Shut down and restart the computer for your changes to take effect. Hard disk drive passwords - Windows NT Your computer comes with a program preinstalled that lets you set a hard disk drive password. This password protects your primary and secondary hard disks by preventing an unauthorized user from accessing your hard disk, even if it is removed and installed on another computer. This password does not encrypt data on the hard disk.
