2. Move the carriage manually to the left. 3. Locate the drop detector and its rods. 4. Clean the rods with a lint-free cloth dampened with a general-purpose industrial cleaner (such as Simple Green). Make sure to remove any ink from the rods. Remove any remaining soap foam with a dry cloth. CAUTION: Be careful not to touch the drop-detector encoder strip. 5. Lubricate the rods with two drops of oil on each rod: one at the center and another one at each end. Then put on gloves and spread the oil manually over the rod. IMPORTANT: Make sure no oil falls onto the printhead cleaning roll: the oil would damage the roll and the printheads. 6. Remove any ink from the rods.
