4 Install and configure the RIP software A Raster Image Processor software (RIP) is required to process the images before they can be printed. This software must be run on a separate computer. The computer requirements are specified by the RIP vendor. You will also need to deactivate the firewall. This chapter describes how to install and configure the RIP correctly for use with the printer. Two RIP software products from two different vendors are compatible with the printer: ● Caldera Grand RIP 15 software ● ONYX 21.1 RIP software You need only one of these. The communication between the RIP and the Internal Print Server is performed through a hot folder that is created by the Internal Print Server installer. The default hot folder path is C:\output. This configuration can be changed in IPS > Preferences > Connectivity. Install ONYX software and set up the driver The following steps provide the complete procedure for this topic. 1. Download the ONYX installation packages and copy them to your computer's desktop. 2. If you already have the ONYX RIP installed, HP recommends uninstalling your current version. 3. Install the ONYX RIP software that you have just downloaded. 4. Download the latest driver and place it on your desktop. 5. Install the driver by double-clicking the installer icon. 6. Once installed, open the RIP and click Configure Printer > Device tab > Configure Port > Configure. 7. Set up the following values: ● IP address: Enter the network address of your printer. ● Print to file Output Directory: Click the ... button and select your mounted hot folder (in this example, \\\Users\Public\SKAAR_HOTFOLDER). 8.
