Configuring Spanning Tree The MSTP Properties page contains the following fields: ❏ Region Name - User-defined STP region name. ❏ Revision - An unsigned 16-bit number that identifies the revision of the current MSTP configuration. The revision number is required as part of the MSTP configuration. The possible field range is 0-65535. ❏ Max Hops - Specifies the total number of hops that occur in a specific region before the BPDU is discarded. Once the BPDU is discarded, the port information is aged out. The possible field range is 1-40. The field default is 20 hops. ❏ IST Master - Identifies the Spanning Tree Master instance. The IST Master is the specified instance root. ❏ Convert RSTP to MSTP Instance - Enables the device to translate Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDU) from both STP and RSTP enabled devices. The device translates the incoming BPDU to MSTP, which then assigns the appropriate instance. Before retransmitting, the device translates the MSTP BPDU to RSTP. This process allows internal operation with MSTP and external operation with other Per-VLAN spanning tree protocols to eliminate bridging multiple per-VLAN Root instances. The possible field values are: ◆ Enable - Enables STP to MSTP/MSTP to STP conversion. This is the default. ◆ Disable - Disables STP to MSTP/MSTP to STP conversion. 2. A configuration consists of the name, revision, and region to which the device belongs. Network administrators can define the MSTP instance settings using the MSTP Instance Settings page.
