If the problem is... Here's what to do... Can't use second modem If your computer came with more than one modem or if you added a second modem: • Make sure that the telephone line is connected to the modem you want to use. • Make sure that the communications software you are using is properly configured to use the second modem. If your computer came from the factory with a second modem, Line 2 is for Data/Fax only. You will be unable to use voice or video conferencing features with the Line 2 modem. • Make sure that the second modem is properly configured. A second modem must use a different COM port and system IRQ from the first modem. When you try to use the modem, your computer or modem is unable to detect a dial tone 1 Make sure the telephone line is correctly connected to your computer. For instructions on connecting your computer to the telephone network, refer to the Setup Poster. 2 Make sure the telephone line is working. 3 Add the modem command x3 to the initialization string for the communications program you are using. For help with changing the initialization string, refer to the documentation that came with your communications program. If any of these problems continue after taking the actions listed, refer to any documentation that may have come with your modem and sound cards. If you find no solution there, run the diagnostics programs that came with your computer. Can’t use second modem
If your computer came with more than one modem or
if you added a second modem:
Make sure that the telephone line is connected to the
modem you want to use.
Make sure that the communications software you are
using is properly configured to use the second
modem. If your computer came from the factory with
a second modem, Line 2 is for Data/Fax only. You will
be unable to use voice or video conferencing features
with the Line 2 modem.
