When a client device designates this switch as a DNS server, the client will attempt to resolve host names into IP addresses by forwarding DNS queries to the switch, and waiting for a response. You can manually configure entries in the DNS table used for mapping domain names to IP addresses, configure default domain names, or specify one or more name servers to use for domain name to address translation. Configuring General DNS Service Parameters Command Usage • To enable DNS service on this switch, first configure one or more name servers, and then enable domain lookup status. • To append domain names to incomplete host names received from a DNS client (i.e., not formatted with dotted notation), you can specify a default domain name or a list of domain names to be tried in sequential order. • If there is no domain list, the default domain name is used. If there is a domain list, the default domain name is not used. 3-181
