4 Command Line Interface • protocol - Protocol type. The only option for the llc_other frame type is ipx_raw. The options for all other frames types include: ip, arp, rarp, and user-defined (0801-FFFF hexadecimal). Default Setting No protocol groups are configured. Command Mode Global Configuration Example The following creates protocol group 1, and specifies Ethernet frames with IP and ARP protocol types: Console(config)#protocol-vlan protocol-group 1 add frame-type ethernet protocol-type ip Console(config)#protocol-vlan protocol-group 1 add frame-type ethernet protocol-type arp Console(config)# protocol-vlan protocol-group (Configuring Interfaces) This command maps a protocol group to a VLAN for the current interface. Use the no form to remove the protocol mapping for this interface. Syntax protocol-vlan protocol-group group-id vlan vlan-id no protocol-vlan protocol-group group-id vlan • group-id - Group identifier of this protocol group. (Range: 1-2147483647) • vlan-id - VLAN to which matching protocol traffic is forwarded. (Range: 1-4094) Default Setting No protocol groups are mapped for any interface. Command Mode Interface Configuration (Ethernet, Port Channel) Command Usage • When creating a protocol-based VLAN, only assign interfaces via this command. If you assign interfaces using any of the other VLAN commands (such as vlan on page 4-168), these interfaces will admit traffic of any protocol type into the associated VLAN. • When a frame enters a port that has been assigned to a protocol VLAN, it is processed in the following manner: - If the frame is tagged, it will be processed according to the standard rules applied to tagged frames. - If the frame is untagged and the protocol type matches, the frame is forwarded to the appropriate VLAN. 4-182
