M4300 Intelligent Edge Series Fully Managed Stackable Switches Table 2. Parameter Descriptions (continued) Parameter Logical Interface Character strings Description Represents a logical slot and port number. This is applicable in the case of a port-channel (LAG). You can use the logical unit/slot/port to configure the port-channel. Use double quotation marks to identify character strings, for example, "System Name with Spaces". An empty string ("") is not valid. unit/slot/port Naming Convention The switch references physical entities such as cards and ports by using a unit/slot/port naming convention. The switch also uses this convention to identify certain logical entities, such as port channel interfaces. The slot number has two uses. In the case of physical ports, it identifies the card containing the ports. In the case of logical and CPU ports it also identifies the type of interface or port. Table 3. Types of slots Slot Type Description Physical slot numbers for all Physical slot numbers begin with zero, and are allocated up to the maximum M4300 switch models except for number of physical slots. model M4300-96X Physical slot numbers for model Physical slot numbers are numbered 1 through 12. M4300-96X only Logical slot numbers Logical slots immediately follow physical slots and identify port-channel (LAG) or router interfaces. The value of logical slot numbers depend on the type of logical interface and can vary from platform to platform. CPU slot numbers The CPU slots immediately follow the logical slots. The port identifies the specific physical port or logical interface being managed on a given slot. Table 4. Types of ports Port Type Description Physical interfaces for all M4300 The physical ports for each slot are numbered sequentially starting from one. switch models except for model For example, port 1 on slot 0 (an internal port) for a switch is 1/0/1, port 2 is M4300-96X 1/0/2, port 3 is 1/0/3, and so on. Physical interfaces for model M4300-96X only The physical ports are Gigabit Ethernet or multispeed 10G Ethernet. The interface number consists of the switch unit number from 1 to 8, the port card number from 1 to 12, and the port number from 1 to 8. For example, port 1 on a port card in slot 1 for a switch is 1/1/1, port 2 is 1/1/2, port 3 is 1/1/3, and so on. Using the Command-Line Interface 14 CLI Command Reference Manual
