- Use Default - Check to use the device-generated Engine ID. The default Engine ID is based on the device MAC address, and is defined per standard as: • First 4 octets - First bit = 1, the rest is IANA Enterprise number = 674. • Fifth octet - Set to 3 to indicate the MAC address that follows. • Last 6 octets - MAC address of the device. - SNMP Notifications - Enable/disable the switch sending SNMP notifications. - Authentication Notifications - Enable/disable the switch sending SNMP traps when authentication fails. Setting SNMP Global Parameters Using CLI Commands The following table summarizes the CLI commands for setting fields in the Global Parameters page. Table 9-56. SNMP Global Parameters Commands CLI Command snmp-server engine ID local {engine-id-string|default} no snmp-server engine ID local snmp-server enable traps no snmp-server enable traps Description Specifies the local device engine ID. The field values is a hexadecimal string. Each byte in hexadecimal character strings is two hexadecimal digits. Each byte can be separated by a period or colon. The Engine ID must be defined before SNMPv3 is enabled. Use the no form of this command to remove the configured engine ID. Enables the router to send Simple Network Management Protocol traps.
