Intel® Server Board S2600GZ/GL TPS Appendix E: POST Code Errors Appendix E: POST Code Errors Most error conditions encountered during POST are reported using POST Error Codes. These codes represent specific failures, warnings, or are informational. POST Error Codes may be displayed in the Error Manager display screen, and are always logged to the System Event Log (SEL). Logged events are available to System Management applications, including Remote and Out of Band (OOB) management. There are exception cases in early initialization where system resources are not adequately initialized for handling POST Error Code reporting. These cases are primarily Fatal Error conditions resulting from initialization of processors and memory, and they are handed by a Diagnostic LED display with a system halt. The following table lists the supported POST Error Codes. Each error code is assigned an error type which determines the action the BIOS will take when the error is encountered. Error types include Minor, Major, and Fatal. The BIOS action for each is defined as follows: Minor: The error message is displayed on the screen or on the Error Manager screen, and an error is logged to the SEL. The system continues booting in a degraded state. The user may want to replace the erroneous unit. The POST Error Pause option setting in the BIOS setup does not have any effect on this error. Major: The error message is displayed on the Error Manager screen, and an error is logged to the SEL. The POST Error Pause option setting in the BIOS setup determines whether the system pauses to the Error Manager for this type of error so the user can take immediate corrective action or the system continues booting. Note that for 0048 "Password check failed", the system halts, and then after the next reset/reboot will displays the error code on the Error Manager screen. Fatal: The system halts during post at a blank screen with the text "Unrecoverable fatal error found. System will not boot until the error is resolved" and "Press to enter setup" The POST Error Pause option setting in the BIOS setup does not have any effect with this class of error. When the operator presses the F2 key on the keyboard, the error message is displayed on the Error Manager screen, and an error is logged to the SEL with the error code. The system cannot boot unless the error is resolved. The user needs to replace the faulty part and restart the system. Note: The POST error codes in the following table are common to all current generation Intel server platforms. Features present on a given server board/system will determine which of the listed error codes are supported. Table 62.
