Memory Modules The hp xw5000 workstation memory features include: • 4 memory slots for DIMMS • 256 MB to 2 GB memory capacity • Single DIMMand dual channel unbuffered DDR 266 • 128, 256, or 512 MB DIMMS, or 1GB stacked DIMMs • DIMMs must be installed in pairs if more than one DIMM is installed Use only HP DIMMs specifically designed for your workstation model. For a complete list of supported memory modules, see the Illustrated Parts Map or go to . Figure 2-6 Removing Memory Modules To remove a memory module: 1. Turn off the system, disconnect all cables, and remove the side cover (page 29). Place the workstation on its side with the system board facing up. To ensure that memory modules are not damaged during removal or installation, power off the workstation and unplug the power cord from the AC power outlet. Wait until the LED on the back of the power supply turns off before removing memory. If you do not unplug the power cord while installing memory, your memory modules may be damaged and the system will not recognize the memory changes. 2. Press down on the memory module's retainer clips and lift the module by its left and right edges out of its memory slot. Memory Module Retainer Clips

Removing Memory Modules
To remove a memory module:
1. Turn off the system, disconnect all cables, and remove the side cover (page 29). Place
the workstation on its side with the system board facing up.

To ensure that memory modules are not damaged during removal or installation,
power off the workstation and unplug the power cord from the AC power outlet. Wait
until the LED on the back of the power supply turns off before removing memory. If
you do not unplug the power cord while installing memory, your memory modules
may be damaged and the system will not recognize the memory changes.
2. Press down on the memory module's retainer clips and lift the module by its left and
right edges out of its memory slot.
