Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), Overview, LLDP Commands

Page 191 highlights

16 Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) Overview The link layer discovery protocol (LLDP) advertises connectivity and management from the local station to the adjacent stations on an IEEE 802 LAN. LLDP facilitates multi-vendor interoperability by using standard management tools to discover and make available a physical topology for network management. The Dell Fore10 operating software (FTOS) implementation of LLDP is based on IEEE standard 802.1ab. LLDP Commands This chapter contains the following commands, in addition to the commands: • clear lldp counters • debug lldp interface • protocol lldp (Configuration) • protocol lldp (Interface) • show lldp neighbors • show lldp statistics The starting point for using LLDP is invoking LLDP with the protocol lldp command in either CONFIGURATION or INTERFACE mode. The information distributed by LLDP is stored by its recipients in a standard management information base (MIB). The information can be accessed by a network management system through a management protocol such as SNMP. For details about implementing LLDP/LLDP-MED, refer to the Link Layer Discovery Protocol chapter of the Dell PowerEdge Configuration Guide for the M I/O Aggregator. clear lldp counters Clear LLDP transmitting and receiving counters for all physical interfaces or a specific physical interface. Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP)
Overview
The link layer discovery protocol (LLDP) advertises connectivity and management from the local
station to the adjacent stations on an IEEE 802 LAN. LLDP facilitates multi-vendor interoperability by
using standard management tools to discover and make available a physical topology for network
management. The Dell Fore10 operating software (FTOS) implementation of LLDP is based on IEEE
standard 802.1ab.
LLDP Commands
This chapter contains the following commands, in addition to the commands:
clear lldp counters
debug lldp interface
protocol lldp (Configuration)
protocol lldp (Interface)
show lldp neighbors
show lldp statistics
The starting point for using LLDP is invoking LLDP with the
protocol lldp
command in either
CONFIGURATION or INTERFACE mode.
The information distributed by LLDP is stored by its recipients in a standard management information
base (MIB). The information can be accessed by a network management system through a
management protocol such as SNMP.
For details about implementing LLDP/LLDP-MED, refer to the Link Layer Discovery Protocol
chapter of the
Dell PowerEdge Configuration Guide for the M I/O Aggregator
.

interface.
