Activating Notification of Events, Alerts, and Syslogs You can configure the VPN firewall to log and then email denial of access, general attacks, and other information to a specified email address. For example, the VPN firewall can log securityrelated events such as accepted and dropped packets on different segments of your LAN, denied incoming and outgoing service requests, hacker probes and login attempts, and other general information based on the settings that you specify on the Firewall Logs & E-mail screen. Selecting all events will increase the size of the log, so it is good practice to select only those events that are required. For you to receive the logs in an email message, the VPN firewall's email notification server must be configured and email notification must be enabled. You must configure the necessary information for sending email, such as the administrator's email address, the email server, user name, and password. If the email notification server is not configured or email notification is disabled, you can still query the logs and generate log reports that you then can view on the Web Management Interface screen. To configure and activate logs: 1. Select Monitoring > Firewall Logs & E-mail from the menu. The Firewall Logs & E-mail screen displays (see Figure 9-3 on page 9-6). incoming and outgoing service requests, hacker probes and login attempts, and other general
information based on the settings that you specify on the Firewall Logs & E-mail screen. Selecting

required.
For you to receive the logs in an email message, the VPN firewall’s email notification server must
be configured and email notification must be enabled. You must configure the necessary
