94 Licensing Installing licenses ■ Installing a license file Requesting a license file Requesting a license file is a straightforward process once you collect certain information about your appliance. You will need the following: ■ The Symantec Serial Number ■ The Appliance Serial Number ■ The Symantec System ID ■ The email address to receive the license file Determining the serial numbers When you request a license file, you need to provide two serial numbers: ■ The Symantec Serial Number This serial number is printed on the Symantec Serial Number certificate that is mailed to you separately, and should arrive in the same time frame as your appliance. This number is also known as the license serial number. ■ The Appliance Serial Number This serial number is found on the back panel label on the 7100 Series appliance itself. It includes the letters FLX followed by ten digits. Neither serial number is included in the Symantec Network Security 7100 Series software distribution package. To determine the Symantec Serial Number ◆ Read the license serial number from the Symantec Serial Number certificate. To determine the Appliance Serial Number ◆ Read the serial number from the label on the back panel of the 7100 Series appliance. Determining the Symantec System ID When you request a license file, you need to provide the Symantec System ID. There are three methods of determining the Symantec System ID. To determine the Symantec System ID from the console on an unlicensed appliance 1 Launch the Network Security console.
