Configuring nodes and interfaces 107 Configuring appliance interfaces ■ Configuring an in-line pair ■ Configuring an interface group For a discussion of the characteristics of each interface type, see "Deployment options" on page 29. This section describes how to add and edit these interface objects in your network topology, using the Network Security console. Configuring monitoring interfaces When you create a 7100 Series node object in your topology tree, Symantec Network Security automatically adds monitoring interface objects for the node. These interfaces default to passive mode. See "Passive mode" on page 30. You cannot manually add or delete monitoring interfaces, but you must edit them to ensure that Network Security functions properly. It is especially important that you enter monitored network information before allowing the interface to process network traffic. You may also want to update other interface fields. About monitoring interface fields There are a number of fields to fill in when you edit an interface on a 7100 Series node. This section describes each field in both the Interface tab and the Networks tab in the Edit Monitoring Interface dialog box. About Interface tab fields The following fields are available on the Interface tab in the Edit Monitoring Interface dialog box. The Interface Name field is the only field that is not editable. Table 8-3 provides detailed information about each field. Table 8-3 Interface tab fields Field Description Descriptive Name Interface Name Customer ID A descriptive name for the interface. This is displayed in the topology tree in place of the default interface name. Optional field. The driver-based name for the monitoring interface. Not editable. A descriptive field. The value is inherited from this interface's node object, unless you edit this Customer ID field to change it.
