3,, Blindstitch/Zig-Zag Blindstitch Blindstitching provides a durable hem finish that is almost invisible. The programmed stitch width of the blindstitch is narrower than other stitch patterns in order to be more suitable for the application. Use zig-zag blindstitch 10 when hemming mediumweight stretch fabrics. Use blindstitch 9 for hemming woven fabrics. Blindstitch Hems • Stitch: blindstitch 9 or 10. • Stitch width: programmed or to suit application or fabric. • Stitch length: programmed or to suit application or fabric. • General purpose needle plate. • Blindstitch hem foot. We recommend making a test sample first using scraps of the material you will be sewing the hem on. • Attach the blindstitch hem foot to the machine, as described on page 10. • Select the blindstitch 9 for woven fabric. Select zig-zag blindstitch 10 for stretch fabric. Use the programmed stitch for this application. 1. Prepare hem in the usual way. It is advisable to baste the hem. 2. With the wrong side of work uppermost, turn the hem under, creating a soft fold from the top edge of hem. 3. Position hem under the foot with the soft fold resting against the right side of the foot, as illustrated. 4. Lower the presser foot. Stitch so that the straight or narrow zig-zag stitches pierce the soft fold of the work. Adjust the presser foot and width, if necessary, by turning the screw on the right side of the foot. Turning the screw away from you will move the shank closer to the hem fold and therefore allow the wider stitch to further pierce the fold of the fabric. While stitching, guide the hem edge in a straight line and feed soft fold evenly against the right side of the foot. Placez l'ourlet sous le pied de sorte que le pli mou repose contre le cote droit du pied, ainsi qu'illustre. 4. Abaissez le pied presseur. Faites la couture de sorte que les points droits ou zigzags etroits percent le pli mou. Reglez la largeur et le pied, si necessaire, en tournant la vis sur le cote droit du pied. En tournant la vis vers l'arriere, le talon se rapproche du pli de l'ourlet et elargit le point pour continuer a percer le pli dans le tissu. Tout en cousant, guidez la lisiere de l'ourlet en ligne droite et entrainez le pli mou uniformement contre le cote droit du pied. Recomendamos que haga Usted primero una prueba en pedazos de tela en la cual Usted realizara el dobladillo. • Sujete el prensatelas de dobladillo para punto ciego en la maquina, tal como se describe en la pagina 10. • Seleccione el punto ciego 9 para telas tejidas. Seleccione el punto ciego en zig-zag 10 para telas elasticas. Use el punto programado para esta aplicaci6n. 1. Prepare el dobladillo de la manera habitual. Se recomienda hilvanarlo. 2. Con el roves de la obra arriba, doble el dobladillo adentro, creando un doblez suave desde el borde superior del dobladillo. 3. Posicione el dobladillo debajo del prensatelas con el doblez suave contra el lado derecho del mismo, como se ilustra. 4. Baje el prensatelas. De puntos de manera que los puntos rectos o estrechos en zigzag penetren el doblez suave. Ajuste el prensatelas y el ancho si hace falta, girando el tornillo en el lado derecho del prensatelas. El hecho de girar el tornillo, alejandolo de Usted, acercara el vastago mas al doblez y por eso permitira que el punto mas ancho perfore aun mas el doblez de la tela. Durante la costura, guie al borde del dobladillo en linea recta y avance el doblez suave uniformemente contra el lado derecho del prensatelas. 72
