Chapter 4 Recording, Playback and Copying Copying Overview This unit enables a copy of clips, EDLs, and files between internal storage, Professional Disc, and SxS memory card. By copying clips/EDLs on an SxS memory card or a Professional Disc to the internal storage, you can reuse the SxS memory card and the Professional Disc as recording media. This is a convenient practice for long hours shootings using XDCAM/XDCAM EX camcorders. MP4/MXF/AVI clips on an SxS memory card/ Professional Disc are copied to the internal storage as follows. MP4/AVI clips: Clips in MP4 format are converted to MXF clips 1) and copied to the MXF clip recording area managed by this unit. The copied clips can be handled as normal clips on the internal storage. MXF clips: Clips in MXF format are copied with no format conversions to the MXF clip recording area managed by this unit. The copied clips can be handled as normal clips on the internal storage. 1) The quality of video and audio data is not degraded. For information about operations, see next section "Copy operations". Copy operations You can perform the following copy operations on this unit. When a copy from internal storage to internal storage is performed, clips and files are duplicated. • Normal copy You can select and copy one or more clips on copy source media or copy all clips on copy source media at one time. • Partial copy You can select one clip on copy source media and copy a specified part of the clip (see page 67). • Chase copy When a clip is being recorded to the internal storage (SDI recording), you can duplicate/copy the clip on the internal storage, to a Professional Disc, or to an SxS memory card at the same time (see page 68). • Transcode copy You can duplicate or copy a clip on copy source media by changing the video format of the clip (see page 69). Example: An HQ1920-format clip recorded on SxS memory card (FAT format) can be converted to HD422 format and copied to the Clip folder on Professional Disc. • Transcode partial copy You can perform a transcode copy of the specified part of a clip on copy source media. • Copy playback You can perform chase play of a clip on copy source media while copying the clip to the internal storage. Example: Any clip in the UserData >XDROOT or UserData >BPAV folder on a Professional Disc cannot be directly played back. However, it can be indirectly played back by performing chase play while copying to the internal storage. Notes • Normally, the UMID data of a copy source clip is saved as is, but not saved when the clip is copied from the internal storage to the internal storage (when the clip is duplicated). • When there is a clip with the same name as that of the copy source clip in the copy destination location, the name of the resulting copied clip consists of the name of the source clip followed by a number in parentheses. • When transcode copying from MPEG to XAVC, the copy destination is internal storage only. • Continuous playback is not possible in copy playback mode. • The following clips can become the copy playback target. - All clips in the UserData folder on Professional Disc - DV-AVI clips on SxS memory card (FAT format) • Clips that support copy playback have a copy playback icon on the clip thumbnail display (see page 73). 64 Copying

Chapter 4
Recording, Playback and Copying
Copying
Overview
This unit enables a copy of clips, EDLs, and files between
internal storage, Professional Disc, and SxS memory card.
By copying clips/EDLs on an SxS memory card or a
Professional Disc to the internal storage, you can reuse the
SxS memory card and the Professional Disc as recording
media. This is a convenient practice for long hours
shootings using XDCAM/XDCAM EX camcorders.
MP4/MXF/AVI clips on an SxS memory card/
Professional Disc are copied to the internal storage as
follows.
MP4/AVI clips:
Clips in MP4 format are converted to
MXF clips
1)
and copied to the MXF clip recording
area managed by this unit. The copied clips can be
handled as normal clips on the internal storage.
MXF clips:
Clips in MXF format are copied with no
format conversions to the MXF clip recording area
managed by this unit. The copied clips can be handled
as normal clips on the internal storage.
1) The quality of video and audio data is not degraded.
For information about operations, see next section “Copy
operations”.
Copy operations
You can perform the following copy operations on this
unit.
When a copy from internal storage to internal storage is
performed, clips and files are duplicated.
Normal copy
You can select and copy one or more clips on copy
source media or copy all clips on copy source media at
one time.
Partial copy
You can select one clip on copy source media and copy
a specified part of the clip
(see page 67)
.
Chase copy
When a clip is being recorded to the internal storage
(SDI recording), you can duplicate/copy the clip on the
internal storage, to a Professional Disc, or to an SxS
memory card at the same time
(see page 68)
.
Transcode copy
You can duplicate or copy a clip on copy source media
by changing the video format of the clip
(see page 69)
.
Example:
An HQ1920-format clip recorded on SxS
memory card (FAT format) can be converted to HD422
format and copied to the Clip folder on Professional
Disc.
Transcode partial copy
You can perform a transcode copy of the specified part
of a clip on copy source media.
Copy playback
You can perform chase play of a clip on copy source
media while copying the clip to the internal storage.
Example:
Any clip in the UserData >XDROOT or
UserData >BPAV folder on a Professional Disc cannot
be directly played back. However, it can be indirectly
played back by performing chase play while copying to
the internal storage.
Normally, the UMID data of a copy source clip is saved
as is, but not saved when the clip is copied from the
internal storage to the internal storage (when the clip is
duplicated).
When there is a clip with the same name as that of the
copy source clip in the copy destination location, the
name of the resulting copied clip consists of the name of
the source clip followed by a number in parentheses.
When transcode copying from MPEG to XAVC, the
copy destination is internal storage only.
Continuous playback is not possible in copy playback
mode.
The following clips can become the copy playback
target.
-
All clips in the UserData folder on Professional Disc
-
DV-AVI clips on SxS memory card (FAT format)
Clips that support copy playback have a copy playback
icon on the clip thumbnail display
(see page 73)
.
