6 6 Place the belt on a clean, hard, smooth surface that is free of dust, hair, and sharp or rough objects. 7 Center the print sample beside the image transfer belt. 8 Using the print sample as a reference, inspect the image transfer belt for a small spot or speck that might be causing the repetitive defects. 9 To locate the spot or speck, you might have to rotate the 7 image transfer belt by turning the metal gear on the right side of the image transfer belt surface. Use your fingers to turn the gear. CAUTION Use extreme care when removing a defect from the image transfer belt. Using a sharp object to remove the defect or allowing fingernails or jewelry to touch the image transfer belt can 8 scratch the belt, causing permanent damage. Do not use force when cleaning the image transfer belt. Do not use any water-based cleaners or alcohol. These actions can permanently damage the image transfer belt. 9 Note You might not be able to clean some types of damage from the image transfer belt. If this type of damage occurs, you must replace the image transfer belt. See "Ordering supplies" on page 175. 6 Managing the printer 203
