Variables x - the ID of the CE reporting the errors n - the number of memory errors reported Severity Error Description This error is reported periodically when the CE contains Error Correction Code (ECC) memory and reports either recoverable or non-recoverable memory errors. Recoverable errors generally do not compromise CE operational integrity; however, they can become problematic if they occur on a constant basis or if they are accompanied by nonrecoverable errors. IOPn.MtcMon FRU: Uncorrectable memory error on CEx IOPn.MtcMon FRU: Uncorrectable platform error on CEx Hardware/Software This message indicates a hardware error. Action You need not take any action if the error occurs infrequently (less than once a week). If the errors occur more frequently, or if the number of memory errors reported is excessive (more than 10 in any of these messages), this may indicate an incipient problem in the memory subsystem, and you should take corrective action as follows: • Run any memory diagnostics supplied with your system to verify the correct functioning of the memory subsystem. • If the problem can be isolated to a particular memory component (DIMM or SIMM), replace the memory. • ECC errors can be caused by marginal timing characteristics of the memory components (DIMM, SIMM, or memory controller) and can be exacerbated by the addition of more DIMMs or SIMMs. If your memory slots are fully-populated, try removing memory from one or more of the slots to see if this alleviates the problem. You must shut down the CE operating system in order to remove the memory. • If the problem persists, replace the CE. 191
