It's the default in case a URL is specified without a prefix Represents the current running configuration file. Represents the startup configuration file. Represents the backup configuration file. If source file, represent the active image file. If destination file, represent the non-active image file. Boot file. Source or destination URL for a TFTP network server. The syntax for this alias is tftp://host/[directory]/filename. The host can be either IP address or hostname. Source for the file from a serial connection that uses the Xmodem protocol. Null destination for copies or files. A remote file can be copied to null to determine its size. Default Configuration This command has no default configuration. Command Mode Privileged EXEC mode User Guidelines • The location of a file system dictates the format of the source or destination URL. • The entire copying process may take several minutes and differs from protocol to protocol and from network to network. Understanding Invalid Combinations of Source and Destination Some invalid combinations of source and destination exist. Specifically, the following cannot be copied: • If the source file and destination file are the same file. • xmodem cannot be a destination. Can only be copied to image, boot and null. • tftp cannot be the source and destination on the same copy. • Active Image is the image the system currently boots from (see "show bootvar" command) or set to boot next from.
