SNMP Commands snmp-server community Use the snmp-server community command to set up the community access string to permit access to the Simple Network Management Protocol command. Use the no form of this command removes the specified community string. Syntax snmp-server community community [ro | rw | su] [ip-address] [view view-name] snmp-server community-group community group-name [ip-address] no snmp-server community community [ip-address] • community - Community string that acts like a password and permits access to the SNMP protocol. (Range :1- 20 chars) • ro - Specifies read-only access (Default) • rw - Specifies read-write access • su - Specifies SNMP administrator access • view view-name - Name of a previously defined view. The view defines the objects available to the community. It's not relevant for su, which has an access to the whole MIB. If unspecified, all the objects except of the community-table and SNMPv3 user and access tables are available. (Range: 1- 30 chars) • ip-address - Management station IP address. Default is all IP addresses. An out-of-band IP address can be specified as described in the usage guidelines. (Range: Valid IP address) • group-name - Name of a previously defined group. The group defines the objects available to the community. (Range :1- 30 chars) Default Configuration There are no default communities defined. Command Mode Global Configuration mode User Guidelines • You can't specify view-name for su, which has an access to the whole MIB. • You can use the view-name to restrict the access rights of a community string.
