Network Printing Using LPR/LPD UNIX/Linux LPR/LPD Printing to the Thin Client 1 On the UNIX/Linx server, first log in as administrator (root). 2 Edit the /etc/printcap file and add the following section with the appropriate values: :\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/:\ :mx#0:\ :sh:\ :rm=:\ :rp=: For example, if the printer is named hp5si, attached to thin client at IP address 10.10.100.13, connected to the parallel port (Queue Name: LPT1), the entry would be as follows: hp5si:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/hp5si:\ :mx#0:\ :sh:\ :rm=10.10.100.13:\ :rp=LPT1: 3 Save the file. 4 To print from the command line, enter the following: lpr -P 198 UNIX/Linux LPR/LPD Printing to the Thin Client
