Chapter 5 Commands Server Shutdown Command This command shuts down the CE's operating system and then shuts down the operating system on each available IOP. Note: This command is the preferred method for shutting down the server. Command Server Shutdown Operation From IOPx Console Syntax MTCCONS Server Shutdown Operation From IOPx Variables x - the ID number of the IOP (1 or 2) Results The monitor on the specified IOP initiates a shutdown of the server. First, a request is issued by the monitor on the specified IOP to the CE Endurance Manager service to shut down the operating system if the CE operating system is booted. The CE Endurance Manager service initiates the CE operating system shutdown. When complete, the monitor on the specified IOP initiates a shutdown of the remote IOP (if it is available), followed by a shutdown of the local IOP. The server reboots when the IOPs and CEs become available. If the system fails to shut down, perform the following steps: • Check the status of the server in the Endurance Manager Main window on the IOPs and the CEs. Determine which, if any, system elements were removed. • Review the Windows NT Event Viewer for a message that indicates that the command failed. • Shut down the server using the procedures in Chapter 9.
