Video Recommendations, Some Remote Control Applications Not Supported on the CE

Page 56 highlights

Chapter 3 Redirected Video and the CE Desktop Application Video Recommendations The following sections provide recommendations for the most efficient use of system resources. Some Remote Control Applications Not Supported on the CE The server does not support the use of remote control applications on the CEs that replace the video drivers with their own drivers. The video drivers are required for CE synchronization. Recommendations for Efficient Use of Redirected Video Table 3-1 lists recommendations for reducing the overhead of redirected video. In most cases, it is best to avoid applications that cause frequent video updates because those updates could impose additional load on the server and could have a negative impact on system performance. Table 3-1 Recommendations for Efficient Use of CE Video About . . . Recommendations 3-D applications Avoid running 3-D applications or complex screen savers, such as those that render 3-D images, on the CE. Cursors, screen savers, and wall paper Avoid animated cursors and screen savers in the server. Use only monochrome cursors. Color cursors are not supported. The redirected video software substitutes a monochrome cursor whenever a request is received to set a color cursor. As a result, some drag-and-drop operations on a server look different than those operations on other systems. Animated applications Avoid running animated applications. Different background display on the CEs and IOPs Avoid using the same background display on the CE desktop and the IOP desktop. If you do not do so, when you run the CE Desktop application in full-screen mode, it can be difficult to determine whether you are viewing the CE desktop or the IOP desktop display. Refer to page 42 for more information about running the CE Desktop application in full-screen mode. 40

Redirected Video and the CE Desktop Application

Video Recommendations
The following sections provide recommendations for the most efficient use of system resources.
Some Remote Control Applications Not Supported on the CE
The server does not support the use of remote control applications on the CEs that replace the
video drivers with their own drivers. The video drivers are required for CE synchronization.
Recommendations for Efficient Use of Redirected Video
Table 3-1
lists recommendations for reducing the overhead of redirected video. In most cases,
it is best to avoid applications that cause frequent video updates because those updates could
impose additional load on the server and could have a negative impact on system performance.

About . . .
Recommendations
3-D applications
Avoid running 3-D applications or complex screen savers, such
as those that render 3-D images, on the CE.
Cursors, screen savers, and wall
paper
Avoid animated cursors and screen savers in the server.
Use only monochrome cursors. Color cursors are not
supported. The redirected video software substitutes a
monochrome cursor whenever a request is received to set a
color cursor. As a result, some drag-and-drop operations on a
server look different than those operations on other systems.
Animated applications
Avoid running animated applications.
Different background display on the
CEs and IOPs
Avoid using the same background display on the CE desktop
and the IOP desktop. If you do not do so, when you run the CE
Desktop application in full-screen mode, it can be difficult to
determine whether you are viewing the CE desktop or the IOP
desktop display. Refer to
page 42
for more information about
running the CE Desktop application in full-screen mode.
