4 Firewall Configuration This chapter describes how to configure firewall rules that control outbound and inbound traffic and to specify other settings that protect your network. Configuring Firewall Rules to Control Inbound and Outbound Traffic By default, your firewall prevents inbound access and allows all outbound access. If you want to allow some inbound access or prevent some outbound access, you must configure firewall rules. You can choose how and to whom the rules apply and can specify these settings: • Services or traffic types (examples: web browsing, VoIP, other standard services and also custom services that you define) • Direction of the traffic • Days of the week and times of day • Keywords in a domain name or on a URL of a web page • MAC addresses of devices Cisco SA500 Series Security Appliances Administration Guide 103
