xStack® DGS-3200 Series Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet Managed Switch Ping Test Users can Ping either an IPv4 address or an IPv6 address. Ping is a small program that sends ICMP Echo packets to the IP address you s pecify. T he destination node t hen res ponds t o or "ec hoes" the packets sent f rom the Switch. This i s very useful t o ve rify connectivity between the Switch and other nodes on the network. To view the following window, click Configuration > Ping Test: Figure 2 - 34. Ping Test window The user m ay click th e Infinite ti mes rad io button, in t he Rep eat Pi nging fo r field, which will tell th e ping program to k eep sending ICMP Echo pac kets to the s pecified IP addre ss until the program is stoppe d. The user m ay opt to c hoose a specific number of times to ping the Target IP Address by clicking its radio button and entering a number between 1 and 255. Click Start to initiate the Ping program. The following parameters may be configured or viewed: Parameter Description Target IP Address Enter an IP address to be Pinged. Interface Name For IPv6 only, enter the name of the interface to be Pinged. Repeat Pinging for Enter the number of times desired to attempt to Ping either the IPv4 address or the IPv6 address configured in this window. Users may enter a number of times between 1 and 255. Size For IPv6 only, enter a value between 1 and 6000. The default is 100. Timeout For IPv4, select a timeout period between 1 and 99 seconds for this Ping message to reach its destination. For IPv6, select a timeout period between 1 and 10 seconds for this Ping message to reach its destination. In either case, if the packet fails to find the IP address in this specified time, the Ping packet will be dropped. Click Start to initialize the Ping program. 34
