1 Introduction This chapter provides an overview of HP Insight Control Environment (ICE) suites provided on the Insight Software DVDs, and describes the features, benefits, and functionality delivered with these integrated software solutions. Overview To help you create the best-run server infrastructures, HP developed suites that build on HP hardware combined with HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) and other complementary HP Insight Control Environment (ICE) products. HP Insight Control Environment suites are designed to address the most difficult issues encountered by IT infrastructures, such as cost, time, energy, and change. With flexible software that unifies the management of hardware resources and scales to businesses of all sizes, HP Insight software helps you: • Take control of your time by simplifying management of HP ProLiant and HP BladeSystem infrastructures • Reduce risk by identifying and resolving issues faster • Drive business growth through flexible infrastructure deployment and optimization • Lower cost through more efficient use of staff and facilities HP Insight software uses an integrated installer to quickly and accurately deploy, configure, integrate, and update HP Insight Control Environment suites and individual management products. This wizard-based installer enables you to predefine installation and configuration preferences for HP management software, including access credentials, performance settings, and discovery parameters. Using the integrated installer, you can install all components as a single integrated process that requires minimal intervention. HP Insight Control Environment Suites You can use the Insight Software DVDs to deploy and license the following HP Insight Control Environment software. See the "HP components licensed with HP Insight Control Environment suites" table for a list of components licensed with each product. You can install one or more products during installation. • HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) • HP Insight Control Environment (ICE) • HP Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem (ICE-BL) HP Systems Insight Manager HP SIM is the foundation for HP unified management strategy. Key benefits include: • Integration of remote support, service tools, contracts, and warranty management • Hardware-level management for HP ProLiant, Integrity, and HP 9000 servers; HP BladeSystems; and HP StorageWorks MSA, EVA, and XP storage arrays • Control of your Windows, HP-UX, Linux, OpenVMS, and NonStop environments HP Insight Control Environment Suites (ProLiant ML, ProLiant DL, and ProLiant BladeSystem servers and blade workstations) The HP Insight Control Environment suite is a licensed integrated management solution for HP ProLiant servers, delivering foundation management capabilities that includes rapid systems deployment, health and performance monitoring, remote control, vulnerability scanning, patch management, advanced power management and virtual machine management. NOTE: HP Insight Control Environment and HP Insight Control Environment for BladeSystem have been combined into one suite.
