Use the telephone to receive manual calls as follows: 1. When you answer a call and hear a long beep or silence, a fax is being sent. 2. Enter the two-digit ID code on your telephone. Wait for five seconds, then hang up. The MultiPASS C3000 then begins receiving the document. Using an Answering Machine—Ans. Machine Mode Connecting an answering machine to the MultiPASS C3000 allows you to receive faxes and phone messages while you are out of the office. In Answer Machine Mode, the MultiPASS C3000 allows the answering machine to answer incoming calls, then listens for a fax tone or for four seconds of silence (also an indication that a fax is coming in), and automatically receives the fax if it detects the tone or a four-second silence. (Four seconds is the default; you can change this value.) N Canon does not recommend using an “answering service” (like those offered by local telephone companies that provide voice mail) on the telephone line you are connecting to the MultiPASS C3000. If you do subscribe to an answering service, you may want to dedicate a separate line for fax communication only and connect that line to the MultiPASS C3000. Or, you can see if your telephone company offers a Distinctive Ring Pattern (DRP) service (see page 5-8 for details). Using the MultiPASS C3000 With an Answering Machine Follow these guidelines when using the MultiPASS C3000 with an answering machine: r Set the answering machine to answer on the first or second ring. r If the MultiPASS C3000 runs out of paper or ink in Answer Machine Mode, it receives all faxes into its memory.
