Faxing Problems Problem Cannot send a document Cause The MultiPASS may have overheated. The MultiPASS may not be set for the type of telephone line in use (pulse/tone). The telephone may not be working. The document may not have been fed correctly into the MultiPASS. The one-touch or coded speed dialing number you used may not be registered for the feature you want to use. There may be other documents being sent from memory. The receiving fax machine may not be a G3 fax machine. The other partys fax maybe out of paper. Solution Unplug the unit and let it cool for several minutes. Try sending again. If you have a pulse line, be sure the MultiPASS is set for pulse dialing. Make sure there is a dial tone when you lift the telephone. Remove the document, stack it, and feed it into the unit correctly (see page 1-10). Make sure the operator panel is closed. Check the one-touch or coded speed dialing button and be sure it is registered correctly. Allow time for the current document to finish sending. Make sure the receiving fax machine is compatible with the MultiPASS (which is a G3 fax machine). Call the other party and ask them to make sure paper is installed. Cannot send or receive using Error Correction Mode (ECM) The other partys fax may not support ECM. Some fax units do not support ECM transmission. If the other partys fax does not support ECM transmission, then the document is sent in the normal mode without error checking. Errors occur frequently The phone line may be in while sending or receiving poor condition, or you may have a poor connection. Lower the transmission speed. See the Advanced: Send Fax dialog box (page 8-5) and the Advanced: Receive Fax dialog box (page 8-8). Troubleshooting Chapter 10 Troubleshooting 10-17
