Print cartridges The printer has four different print cartridges, one for each color. However, they share the same structure, shown in Figure 5-15 Print cartridge. Figure 5-15 Print cartridge The following are the physical components inside the print cartridge: ■ Photosensitive drum ■ Primary charging roller ■ Developing cylinder ■ Toner charging roller ■ Stirrers ■ Waste-toner transfer plate The photosensitive drum rotation drives the primary charging roller. All other components are driven by the drum motor. The developing disengaging motor drives the developing disengaging block, which causes the developing cylinder to engage with or disengage from the photosensitive drum. The DC controller uses an LED and a photo diode to monitor the level of toner inside the cartridge. It stores this information on a memory tag that is built into each cartridge. 138 Chapter 5 Theory of operation ENWW
