Service approach Printer repair normally begins by using the printer's internal diagnostics and the following three-step process. 1 Isolate the problem to the major system (for example, the host computer, the network or server, or the printer system). 2 Determine if the problem is located in the accessories or in the printer engine. 3 Troubleshoot the problem by using the procedures in chapter 7. After you locate a faulty part, the printer can usually be repaired at the assembly level by replacing field replaceable units (FRUs). Some mechanical assemblies might need to be repaired at the subassembly level.
