Developing cylinder disengaging control Whenever the developing cylinder is in contact with the photosensitive drum, toner passes onto the drum. At certain times, such as during ETB cleaning or during monochrome printing, toner should not pass onto the drum, and the developing cylinder should not be in contact with the drum. The bottom half of the print cartridge can pivot up and down, causing the developing cylinder to either come in contact with or move away from the photosensitive drum. A small block inside the printer causes each cartridge to pivot. When the block is pushed up, the rear of the cartridge is pushed up, and the front of the cartridge swings down. The developing cylinder disengages from the drum. Figure 5-18 Developing cylinder disengaging illustrates this process. During monochrome printing, the developing cylinder in all cartridges (except the black cartridge) is disengaged. During ETB cleaning, the developing cylinders in all cartridges are disengaged.
