If the DR fails it will promote itself to be the new DR. The router forms adjacencies to all neighbors in the network segment. DR The router is the DR on the connected network segment. Adjacencies are established to all neighbors in the network segment. Additional duties are origination of a network-LSA for the network node and flooding of LS updates on behalf of all other neighbors.
