First of all, the entire MIB tree can be partitioned into subtrees, characterized by the access requirements for different levels of user. This enables a set of MIB view records to be defined. Secondly, users can be classified into groups. Each group is defined with its own security model, security level, read-only MIB view, read/write MIB view, and notification MIB view. Finally, the users need to be added to the groups and the keys required for authentication or encryption need to be defined.
