Chapter 10 Applications FTPES (File Transfer Protocol over Explicit TLS/SSL) File Transfer Protocol over Explicit TLS/SSL (FTPES) is a file transfer service that uses either TLS (Transport Layer Security) or SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for secure transfers across the Internet. It requests for a mutual method of encryption from the FTP server for its file transfer sessions. Your FTP client must be set to use FTPES as in the following example. Figure 89 FTP Client Example Media Server The media server feature lets anyone on your network play video, music, and photos from the NAS (without having to copy them to another computer). The NAS can function as a DLNA-compliant media server and/or an iTunes server. The NAS streams files to DLNA-compliant media clients or computers using iTunes. The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a group of personal computer and electronics companies that works to make products compatible in a home network. iTunes Server The NAS iTunes server feature lets you use Apple's iTunes software on a computer to play music and video files stored on the NAS. You can download iTunes from www.apple.com. Download Service The NAS's download service downloads files from the Internet directly to the NAS. You do not have to download to your computer and then copy to the NAS. This can free up your computer's system resources. The NAS can download using these protocols. • HTTP: The standard protocol for web pages. • FTP: A standard Internet file transfer service. • P2P download: Peer-to-peer files sharing protocol. 192 NAS540 User's Guide

File Transfer Protocol over Explicit TLS/SSL (FTPES) is a file transfer service that uses either TLS

(Transport Layer Security) or SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for secure transfers across the Internet.

It requests for a mutual method of encryption from the FTP server for its file transfer sessions. Your

FTP client must be set to use FTPES as in the following example.
