bizhub C360/C280/C220 Reliability Features & Functions Reliability THE SAME HIGH RELIABILITY AS BLACK-AND-WHITE UNITS Konica Minolta continues to build upon the formidability of the bizhub OP multifunctional devices to bring you color-based printer/copiers that offer the same high reliability and performance typically associated with traditional black-and-white units. AUTO REFINING DEVELOPING SYSTEM The Auto-Refining Developing System has been implemented as a means to maintain the developer (carrier + toner) charge at a constant level for black & white output. This is particularly useful in those environments that output a high volume of monochrome documents. With the Auto-Refining Developing System, the carrier in the developing unit is mixed in the toner cartridge and new toner is supplied to the developing unit as toner is consumed. The deteriorated carrier is then collected in the waste toner box. By continually replacing developer, it maintains an optimum charge and remains unaffected by carrier deterioration. As a result, these bizhub devices are able to deliver stable image qualities regardless of the print volume or environmental changes. Toner Cartridge Toner New Carrier Low Deterioration of Carrier as a Whole Toner Cartridge Toner Low Deterioration of Carrier as a Whole Developing Unit Waste Toner Box Circulation and Agitation Auto-Refining Developing System 1. New carrier is supplied from the toner cartridge with toner. 2. When new carrier is supplied, deteriorated carrier is expelled with the toner, reducing carrier deterioration in the developing unit. 3. This method maintains stable image quality over the long term. Developing Unit Circulation and Agitation Conventional Developing Method 1. Only toner is supplied from the toner cartridge. Carrier was not supplied. 2. Carrier deteriorated in the developing unit. The entire imaging unit was replaced when the carrier reached the end of its lifetime. 94
