2 BASIC OPERATIONS This chapter explains the basic procedures for sending and receiving faxes. There are three basic methods for fax transmission: memory transmission, direct transmission, and manual transmission. When memory transmission is used, the document is temporarily stored in memory before being transmitted. When direct transmission or manual transmission is used, the document is transmitted without being stored in memory, The default transmission setting can be set to "MEMORY TX" or "DIRECT TX" using "SEND MODE" (page 101) in the key operator programs. To manually switch between "MEMORY TX" and "DIRECT TX", use the [COMM. SETTING] key. (See "Faxing by direct transmission" on page 23.)
