Troubleshooting Communication Problems Start Printer connected to Yes some type of sharing device? No Disconnect the printer from the sharing device. Connect the printer directly to the host. Retest. From DOS, send the following command to print the DOS directory: DIR>LPT1: Prints the DOS Yes directory? No Printer communicates without the sharing device? No Sharing device faulty or Yes imcompatible. Remove the sharing device. Retest. Sharing device is probably not the cause, however, continue testing without the sharing device. (Once the communication problem is resolved, you can try to use the sharing device again.) Goto A. The printer and host communicate. The problem may be related to the software printer driver or the software settings.
