ARP Table Configuration Field Total Entry Count Peak Total Entries Active Static Entries Configured Static Entries Maximum Static Entries Description The total number of entries in the ARP table. The highest value reached in the Total Entry Count field. This counter is restarted when you change the size of the ARP table cache. The total number of active static entries in the ARP table. The total number of configured static entries in the ARP table. The maximum number of static entries that can be defined. Routing Information Protocol Routing Information Protocol (RIP) is a protocol that switches and routers can use to exchange network topology information. RIP is characterized as an interior gateway protocol, and is typically used in small to medium-sized networks. A device that runs RIP sends the contents of its routing table to each of its adjacent devices. When a route is removed from the routing table, it is flagged as unusable by the other devices and, after a certain period, removed from their routing. Two versions of RIP exist: • RIPv1 (defined in RFC 1058): - Routes are specified by IP destination network and hop count. - The routing table is broadcast to all devices on the attached network. RIPv2 (defined in RFC 1723): - The route specification also includes the subnet mask and gateway. - The routing table is sent to a multicast address, reducing network traffic. - Authentication is used for security. You can configure an interface to do the following: • Receive packets in either or both formats. • Send packets formatted for RIPv1 or RIPv2, or send RIPv2 packets to the RIPv1 broadcast address. • Prevent any RIP packets from being received.
